"Toe-tapping Snappy Hot Jazz". 440 presents a rich harmonic blend of violin and clarinet which expands the gypsy jazz tradition of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli. At a time of year when there is a chill in the air outside, 440's music provides the much needed treat of warmth and beauty through a jazz everyone likes. Featuring a compilation of danceable swing standards and captivating originals by the band influenced by gypsy jazz and Eastern European music.

Performing tunes from the traditional Jug Band songbook, seasoned with old country, folk, gospel and blues.
The All Worn Out Jug Band Was founded in Chatham in 2000 and has graced the stage of many of the Cape's favorite venues. The Band delights audiences with an eclectic mix of American Roots music, including Jug Band Music in the style of Jim Kweskin and the Even Dozen Jug Band. Their performances also include songs from icons like Johnny Cash and Hank Williams, along with country, bluegrass, traditional and gospel offerings. Band members include Gregory Baird, Tim Dickey, Kevin Howard, Mary Loebig and Edmund Robinson.

Laura 's performance at First Night Chatham is dubbed “Laura's Greatest Hits” and features genres such as Broadway, Pop, and Rock. Laura Barabe is a 23 year old Chatham native who has been singing all over Cape Cod for more than a decade. She is a member of the Chatham Chorale and has sung with the group since she was 11 years old. She will be accompanied by her grandmother, Susan Beckner, who is a gifted pianist and is very excited to play alongside her granddaughter!

Blues, funk, and soul at her core, Natalia has a natural storytelling ability with her relatable original lyrics accompanied by timeless vocals. With a band of local musicians by her side, they bring a unique and refreshing style to your favorite covers, mashing up genres from soul, to pop, to the classics, and of course the blues. Natalia was a top 50 finalist in American Idol's 20th season and has performed at many notable venues across the country. An award winning songwriter, her single "Before" won the New England Songwriters Competition and received honorable mention in SongDoor's International Competition. Natalia and her band come alive on stage and are a must-see!

Our nationally award winning jump rope team demonstrates a wide variety of impressive skills.
Our goal is to bring more attention to the incredible sport of Jump Rope! We will provide demonstrations of various events that the team competes in, and we will be doing some group routines where everyone works together to achieve the same goal. Anyone and everyone can jump rope, and audiences will be invited to participate at the end of each session!

The Cape Cod Shakespeare Festival in Chatham celebrates First Night Chatham with a musical salute to summer theatre in Chatham. Former members of the Monomoy Theatre and members of the Cape Cod Shakespeare Festival in Chatham will present songs and scenes from Broadway musicals and Shakespeare plays. Actors and singers from all over the country, including the Broadway stage, will gather in Chatham to once again share their talents with our local audiences.

Their energetic fiddle performances draw from both international and American fiddle traditions.
Playing Fiddle Together Since 1989! Widely known for their energetic fiddle performances and two recordings on CD, the Cape Cod Fiddlers draw their repertoire from the Irish, Scottish, Shetland Isles, Scandinavian, Cape Breton, French Canadian and American fiddle traditions. Providing music for concerts festivals, dances, wedding, and parties, this fiddle group has become a tradition and an integral part of the community on Cape Cod.

Three of Cape Cod's top Jazz Musicians will perform Jazz Standards and some original compositions.
The Cape Cod Jazz Trio is comprised of three of Cape Cod's top Jazz Musicians with Fred Boyle on piano from South Yarmouth, Ron Ormsby on bass from Centerville, and Bart Weisman on drums from Orleans. The Cape Cod Jazz Trio will be performing Jazz Standards and some original compositions by Fred Boyle. The Trio has appeared at concerts, events, weddings, and restaurants across Cape Cod including the Provincetown Jazz Festival.

Cape Cod's most well-known saxophonists on soprano sax, alto sax, tenor sax, and bari sax.
The Cape Cod Sax Quartet is comprised of some of Cape Cod's most accomplished saxophonists: Berke McKelvey, Maurice Soque, Ryder Corey, and Nicholas Suchecki. Individually, the members of the group have performed with both Cape-based artists and internationally renowned artists, including the Cape Symphony, Funktapuss, Chandler Travis, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Gladys Knight and the Pips, and the Artie Shaw Orchestra.

With no rhythm section, a sax quartet exhibits skills in intonation, communication, balance, blend, and independence. Throughout their shows, they teach the audience about the history and mechanics of the various saxophones. Not only will you enjoy the music played by an ensemble you have most likely never heard or seen before, you will also learn something!

Local ukulele enthusiasts goal is to have fun and play good music.
The Cape Cod Ukulele Club is a group of volunteers who practice weekly and perform around Cape Cod. The group is led by Cathy Hatch and started about 10 years ago at her home. The group has upper and lower Cape practice locations and performs all summer on Hyannis Village Green on Magic Music Mondays at 5:30pm. The group hosts all players from beginners to intermediate levels.

Musician/author Matt York will perform the songs of Johnny Cash and tell stories about Cash's career spanning from the 1950's to his passing in 2003.
Longtime New England musician/author Matt York will perform the songs of Johnny Cash and tell stories about Cash's career spanning from the 1950's to his passing in 2003. He'll discuss Cash's emergence as a groundbreaking artist in the 1950's, his marriage to June Carter and many of his other career highlights. In both 2022 and 2023, York was nominated for the Boston Music Award for Best Country Artist and his album Gently Used was named one of Worcester Magazine's best albums of 2022.

Local poets read their poetry,a 20 year old tradition. A booklet of the poems and bios will be given out. After those scheduled, audience members may read one of their own.
On New Year's Eve, poets will gather to read their poetry in the lovely, acoustically sound, St Christopher's Chapel. After a three year hiatus during the Covid pandemic, Poets will once again return and keep this 20 year old tradition going. A booklet of the poems and bios of each will be given out. Following those who have agreed in advance to read, the audience will have the opportunity to read one of their own Poems.

The Chinese Folk Art Workshop aims to increase Chinese cultural awareness in the community by performing Chinese folk arts.
The Chinese Folk Art Workshop aims to increase Chinese cultural awareness in the community by performing Chinese folk arts. Its mission is to encourage young people to share with others their talents in traditional Chinese performance and visual arts. In Chinese mythology, the phoenix and dragon represent water and mountains, which symbolize Yin and Yang, respectively the two primary Chinese philosophical forces of life. Our performance group features female and male members, representing the phoenix and dragon. By dancing together, they present a life-enriching performance.

Cirque du Jour is proud to once again bring top notch circus artists to First Night Chatham. They will dazzle and delight with traditional circus artistry that will include hand balancing, juggling, aerial displays, and those fun and funny purveyors of comedy. This year GiGi brings her friends Slappy (Tiffany Riley) & Monday (Dick Monday) to share center ring with her. Their brand of silly has been seen at the Big Apple Circus (where Tiffany was the first female featured clown) and beyond. Three performances this year.

A family of accomplished traditional Irish musicians performs vocals and instrumentals to warm the soul.
The Clancy Tradition plays energetic music from the Celtic genre. The group carries forward the music played by multiple generations of the Clancy Family with roots dating back to 1950s Ireland, where members of the Clancy family played at country dances and concerts throughout Ireland. The group features Rose Clancy on fiddle, Gene Clancy on vocals/guitar, Max Cohen on vocals/guitar, John Alden on vocals/upright bass and Clayton March on clarinet/fiddle. The group pays tribute to its origins through a special blend of contemporary and traditional tunes and songs, infused with influences from Ireland, Scotland, Cape Breton and New England. Sure to get your toes tapping!

Horace Silver, Benny Golson, Oliver Nelson, Wayne Shorter, and Antonio Carlos Jobim are just some of the great jazz composers that we like to feature. We also enjoy playing rock songs by the Zombies, Classics Four, Van Morrison, and the Beatles, just to name a few. The members of the Cove Jazz Quintet are: Frank Giasullo (c flute, alto flute, and soprano saxophone); John Owens (guitar, bass guitar, and vocals); Rick Arnoldi (guitar); Marty Fellman (piano); and Larry Biron (drums).

Their repertoire covers hard bop tunes such as Sidewinder, Sugar, and Midnight Blue; what they call "island funk" like Cantaloupe Island and The Cape Verdean Blues; soulful pop favorites like Just The Two Of Us, How Sweet It Is, and Don't Know Why; and bossa nova classics including Corcovado, Wave, and No More Blues.

Get ready for a concert featuring all of your favorites – from Cole Porter to Carousel, with a little Puccini thrown in! Julie and Denya perform sea shanties, folk songs, familiar 20th century music and lively fiddle tunes, as well as Celtic and country music.
Julie Charland and Denya LeVine have been entrancing Cape Cod audiences for 13 years. You'll hear 18th to 21st century music, from sea shanties to folk songs and familiar 20th century popular music as well as Celtic and country music, and lots of humor! Their energetic fiddle tunes will knock your socks off! Julie Charland, a full time musician, is an integral part of local band Toast And Jam. She's a Nashville recording artist, an award-winning songwriter, mother of three, and a local folk and bluegrass musician. Denya LeVine is a full-time musician who's performed on Cape Cod and in southeastern Massachusetts with folk and ethnic bands for many decades. She worked at the Fillmore East rock music theater and lived in the British Isles, Europe and Central Asia. Julie and Denya play guitar, ukuleles, Irish drum and fiddle, and their rousing vocal harmonies sparkle and inspire. This duo has a zest for life that is contagious!

A talented ragtime pianist and occasional vocalist, Sue Keller started playing piano when she was four. She also studied flute and took voice lessons, played guitar, and sang in some school operas. After a wide variety of musical jobs (including playing rock), she started concentrating more on vintage jazz and ragtime.

Sharing a piece of her “mosaic” with the audience will enchant all listeners by incorporating a blend of her own originals with classic songs of the late 1900’s, underground gems, and musical masterpieces. Being a senior in high school, she is beginning to blossom into her identity as a performing artist as she anticipates a career as an artist through college and beyond. The people and world around her have inspired every ounce of her creative energy, and she considers all aspects of her life to be pieces of her own beautiful mosaic she looks forwards to sharing with an audience.

Tom Leidenfrost is a Cape Cod based accordionist who performs locally and nationally. Tom's theatre background combined with a passion for the accordion makes for energetic performances across a range of genres. His roots are in Celtic music, but Tom has branched out to other genres such as swing, jazz, and various folk. He will be joined with Thomas Nuendel on violin who is currently involved with the Early music based band Cantiga.

Originally from the UK, she has made Provincetown her home for the last 29 years. She's traveled to over 70 countries, released 8 albums of original material, toured with Judy Collins, Richie Havens, Nanci Griffiths and the Indigo Girls, has won numerous songwriting awards and written and produced 2 musicals.

Get ready for an upbeat and thoroughly entertaining show!

Come and listen to a couple of sets of toe-tapping New Orleans/Traditional jazz from the 20s and 30s played by the Lincoln (MA) Traditional Jazz band. This will be our fifth appearance at First Night Chatham and we hope for yet another capacity crowd! Bob Tuffley, cornet; Peter Wells, clarinet; Ron L’Herault, trombone; Tim Mahoney, banjo; Bill Kass, tuba; and Nick Ribush, leader and keyboard.

The Weiser/Liston-Kraft Piano Duo has been described as "simply a force of pianistic energy" who play with "a seamless and tightly knit unity," and who "absolutely smoke the 88 keys." They have been bringing their captivating, virtuosic, and high energy performances to audiences across the U.S. for over thirty years with numerous performances for First Night Chatham. Most certainly the only piano duo who both attended Harvard Law School, Weiser and Liston-Kraft bring a flair for the dramatic and a high-wire musical choreography that make their concerts a visual and sonic spectacle. Dr. Liston-Kraft is a Chatham resident and recovering lawyer who is finishing his PhD in Germanic Literature at Harvard University. Dr. Weiser lives in Baltimore and is the founder of Classicopia, based in Hanover, NH, as well as AmiciMusic based in Baltimore and Asheville, NC. Both are chamber music organizations dedicated to high quality, intimate and educational concerts.

Illusionist David Garrity presents “Magic&Beyond”, an all-ages, one-person illusion show.
Illusionist David Garrity uses visual magic and illusions combined with music, pantomime, situation comedy and audience participation. Written like a Pixar movie, there is humor and references for the adults watching as well as the children making this truly an all-ages performance. In this performance, you may see hilarious stunts of apparent mind-reading, an incredible illusion where a table mysteriously floats around the stage and out into the audience, “dangerous” stunts, a beautiful and artistic illusion involving ordinary Hula Hoops that perform extraordinary magic and a hilarious Houdini-style “Escape Challenge.”

Thomas Marchio, guitar, an eleventh grade student at Monomoy High School. He is a member of both the school band and jazz ensemble. He studies with James Skinger and Celtic guitar with Scott MacMillan. In the past he has performed with the Chatham Chorale, Chatham Music Club, and the Chatham Fiddle Orchestra.
Christopher Marchio, piano, is a ninth grade student at Monomoy High School. He is a member of both the school band and jazz ensemble. He studies with Anne Franciose Perrault and jazz piano with Bert Seager. In the past he has performed with the Chatham Chorale, Chatham Music Club, and the Chatham Fiddle Orchestra.

Dixieland jazz - swinging improvisations on familiar and not so familiar tunes, and requests from the audience.
Dixieland Jazz – a perennial favorite! With Jeff Hughes on cornet leading the band, you'll hear lots of swinging improvisations on familiar and maybe not so familiar tunes, with each musician featured on specialty numbers, and on requested tunes from the audience. Lots of tunes in the tradition of Bix, Bobby Hackett, Ellington, Basie, and Armstrong. This is always a fun and exciting performance, so come and sit awhile, and prepare to enjoy some hot jazz to warm the chilly night!
The Monomoy Seven has been a favorite for 21 years at First Night Chatham celebrations. The players are drawn from around New England, and include some of the area's hottest improvisers in the classic jazz tradition: John Clark (reeds), Mike Persico (trombone and vocals), Ross Petot (piano), Bob Barta (banjo and vocals), Al Bernard (tuba), Steve Taddeo (drums), and Jeff Hughes on cornet leading the band.

Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Alastair Moock has made a name for himself on the folk and Americana circuit, touring throughout the U.S. and Europe and playing renowned events like the Newport Folk festival. He'll be joined at First Night Chatham by two of the best musicians in the region — mandolinist Sean Staples and bass player Chandler Travis. The Boston Globe calls him "one of the town's best and most adventurous songwriters" and The Washington Post says "every song is a gem." He's also a co-founder of The Opening Doors Project, an anti-racist music organization, and a charter member of The Club Passim Folk Collective, an equity and inclusion group at Boston's historic folk venue.

Trevor grew up in Brewster and it was there that he learned to juggle as a teen. He’s been juggling professionally for over 15 years, performing and instructing throughout New England, and beyond. Trevor has been inspiring and amusing First Night Chatham audiences for over a decade with the juggling of clubs, rings, balls, boxes, plates, hats, rubber chickens and audience-suggested objects to boot. He might even juggle boots!

Peking and the Mystics is delighted to kick off its second half-century (yes, you read that right) as a musical ensemble with its eighth appearance as part of the annual First Night Chatham lineup.

Comprised of alumni of Tufts University and its a cappella singing group, the Beelzebubs, PATM has toured nationally and internationally and recorded five albums. The group's eclectic repertoire of original arrangements by PATM members themselves features vintage vocals from such genres as R&B, swing, doo wop and pop music., representing every decade from the 1930s to the 2000s.

PATM is Gene Blake, Methuen, Mass., on tenor 2; Andrew Cranin, Brewster, Mass., on baritone 1; Chris Parker, Ipswich, Mass., on bass; David Pratt, Wellesley, Mass., on tenor 1; and Tim Vaill, North Andover, Mass., on baritone 2.

A special opening of The Chatham Railroad Museum for First Night Chatham features two special displays : museum volunteers are operating an "O" gauge train; and a special train themed exhibit of all First Night Chatham buttons, from the earliest to the present, are on display.

The Chatham Railroad Museum is located in the restored 1887 railroad depot that served Chatham for nearly fifty years. Enjoy the museum's many exhibits! Travel back to 1915 when the railroad was a hub of activity portrayed by the diorama of the railroad yard. Imagine riding the 1910 wood sided red caboose, located behind the Museum, which is also open.

The Reunion Band will be playing their usual brand of hard-driving traditional bluegrass music, with exciting instrumentals and vocal harmonies! Come hear The Reunion Band in the wonderful acoustic environment of the UU Meeting House. The band, which has been around since 2002, takes its name from the fact that the members have played together off and on and in various configurations for over 30 years. The Reunion Band features veteran Boston-area musicians Richard Brown (mandolin), Dave Dillon (rhythm guitar), Margaret Gerteis (acoustic bass), Laura Orshaw (fiddle) and most recently BB Bowness (banjo).

Come hear pianist Jacqueline Schwab's expressive pieces from her Burns' soundtrack performances and ones inspired by them. She will speak about Ken's unusual way of working with music—how he elicits emotive performances and what he musically seeks to express his stories and values. Jacqueline's signature playing features in over a dozen of Burns' documentaries, including his Grammy-winning Civil War, Baseball, Lewis and Clark, Mark Twain, The War and his recently-released Benjamin Franklin, as well as in other PBS documentaries, such as The Irish in America—The Long Journey Home. She has performed at the White House for President Clinton and twice on national PBS as a guest soloist with the American Pops Orchestra. She is well known to the traditional dance world for her groundbreaking playing with the Bare Necessities ensemble. Her recently-released solo album I Lift My Lamp—Illuminations from Immigrant America celebrates vintage music from American immigrants. Jacqueline grew up in Pittsburgh and has since lived in Boston and on Cape Cod.

All-male choral group in the European choral tradition, showcasing the beauty and lasting style of male voices.
Formed in 2008, the singers hail from many Cape towns. Their songs provide a rich mixture of American and International musical flavor, and they perform at various venues both on and off the Cape. In 2018 they were selected to perform in the London Welsh Festival of Male Voice Choirs as part of an 800 member chorus and performed to an audience of almost 6000.

In both 2022 and 2023, York was nominated for the Boston Music Award for Best Country Artist and his album Gently Used was named one of Worcester Magazine's best albums of 2022.

Brett “Ooch” Outchcunis combines three of his favorite activities – yo-yo tricks, cool music and sweet dance moves – for a fun, interactive and high energy afternoon for families of all ages.

The show is part yo-yo tricks and part dance party. Ooch performs some of his favorite yo-yo tricks that will dazzle the audience. In Ooch's world "dance" can mean many things — like follow-along dance, popular line dances such as the Cupid Shuffle, Cotton Eyed Joe, or Cha Cha Slide, body percussion, Freeze Dance and even Hula Hoops to music … all to popular songs requested by the audience.

A costumed road race, sponsored by the Chatham Squire. Register, show off your costume, and race for fun!
A costumed road race, from the Chatham Squire to the Lighthouse and back, sponsored by the Chatham Squire. Register outside the Squire starting at 2 pm ($10); Costume judging at 2:30 pm; the race starts at 3 pm (a bit under 2 miles round-trip). You can't miss the gorilla in charge. Race registrants get a Tee shirt, and beef stew served at the Squire after the race! Spectators line Main Street to cheer on everyone parading down the road in costume - you can run, you can walk, you can hop, skip or jump!

Spectacular fireworks after the Noise Parade will be presented for the whole family. March in the Noise Parade which ends at the Commuinty Center. The fireworks show is at Veterans Field and viewing is from the parking lot and fields behind the Chatham Community Center.

This amazing and special fireworks show is presented by Northstar Fireworks of Vermont; they've been doing the First Night Chatham fireworks for many years.

Watch Chip and his team carve multiple beautiful sculptures from large blocks of ice.
Ice sculptor Chip Koser will carve multiple beautiful sculptures from large blocks of ice. In 2011, Chip and his team took home a bronze medal at the World Ice Art Championship held in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Chip will be carving early in the afternoon, then all ice carvings will be on display and spotlit all afternoon and evening. Stroll by or drive by.
